Markus – Java Developer

One of our experts who drives the engine of our solutions with Java

Remote and yet right in the centre

While travelling to the office used to be routine, today it's the exception rather than the rule. I enjoy being able to work completely from home and still always receive a warm welcome when I come into the office. I always have a good time in Niedernberg: the atmosphere in the office is relaxed, in summer it's tempting to work in air-conditioned rooms and the gym is always an incentive. But it's not just the team that impresses with its relaxed atmosphere, our boss's door is always open.

As my entire team mainly works remotely, we only communicate online via Teams. We are connected by our dailies and our weekly developer meeting. This means that despite the physical distance, we are always connected and involved in what is happening.

Wherever my favourite place is - PreHCM allows me to work from there.

The opportunity to work remotely and the acceptance of this are two aspects that I really appreciate about my work. From time to time, I take the opportunity to move my workplace to another city or even abroad for a few days or weeks, which works without any problems. As long as I can assure the availability for meetings, I can choose where I work from.

Of course, socialising used to be easier when we all sat together in the office. But at PreHCM there are always opportunities to meet in person and share moments together. One example of this is the invitations to events, such as eating burgers together.

We are also invited to a whole weekend with all our colleagues and their families every year, which gives us the opportunity to get to know each other better outside of professional topics. As with the free time at work, I also appreciate the opportunity to decide for myself which activities I want to take part in.

Seit dem ersten Tag bleibt es abwechslungsreich

It was exciting right from the start - as soon as I joined the company, I built up a project from scratch with my team and became the tool manager. This allowed me to get to know all areas and processes: From the start of the project to the release, I was not only involved on a technical level, but also had direct customer contact and was able to experience the impact of our product at first hand. In addition to customer meetings and user meetings on the one hand, my area of responsibility included product maintenance and further development on the other.

I appreciate the fact that I can concentrate fully on my projects and software development. Our team organization with SCRUM ensures that we only have short and focused meetings and at the same time gain an insight into the team's tasks.

A lot has happened since then and I have been able to develop in the direction that I enjoy the most: my focus today is entirely on Java development. I work on two projects and can concentrate fully on my passion, Java programming including bug fixing, while the Product Owners form the interface between us and the customer. This means that the number of meetings is manageable, and I can focus on my core competence.

What I find particularly exciting and challenging is that our projects always involve cutting-edge topics for which there are sometimes no solutions or approaches yet.

That's why PreHCM Services

Even during the onboarding process, I felt the pleasant atmosphere and the personal and relaxed way of working and was quickly convinced that I wanted to work here. This is still the case today: when I find my way to Niedernberg, our boss is happy to see us and the interaction between colleagues is very pleasant. We can really have fun at work here. Even though we work in a structured and goal-oriented way in our projects, we still have a quick chat after the technical part – even digitally.

The projects at PreHCM are always at the cutting edge. This makes the work exciting because I can always familiarize myself with new, unfamiliar topics and we find innovative solutions as a team.

What I really appreciate, apart from the good working atmosphere and my colleagues, is the size of the company. Compared to a corporate group, you are involved in many areas of a project with us and also get an insight into the topics of your colleagues. The complete project setup includes everything you can do in Java development: Identifying customer requirements, setting up the infrastructure, the development itself, the deployment and then bringing everything into the cloud – so it always remains varied.

Another advantage of the company's size is that each and every one of us has a major influence on decisions, as we make most of them directly as a team. There are no rigid structures and decisions are made from below rather than from above. My opinion is not only wanted when it comes to Java.

I've also been able to get involved in overarching topics such as applicant selection and job advertisements, because at the end of the day, as developers we can also contribute our expertise on content-related issues.

We are looking for people who know that Java is not just an island.

We are happy to have support in our team

Experienced Java developers get their money's worth thanks to the varied and challenging tasks in our projects and our company is also a good talent factory for graduates. Young talents with a keen perception can learn a lot from experienced developers and can take on responsibility in the projects right from the start and thus become an important part of our team from the very beginning.

I look forward to getting to know you!
